Mix and Stir Studio Unhackathon #1, Mass Communication Challenge: TrackSF

This was build over the course of about a day during Unhackathon #1 by Mix and Stir Studio, hosted at California College of the Arts in San Francisco. My team took on the Mass Communication Challenge and we won! The focus of the challenge was disseminating transit information to citizens.

TrackSF is a surface-level public communication system that leverages current technology to help riders make informed, timely, decisions and feel in control by making the invisible transit information at any given location visible. A real-time animated map will aggregate local route times of Muni, BART and other transportation systems to give riders an accurate picture of where they are and which route would best suit their needs. TrackSF can expand beyond transit to serve other city communication purposes (emergencies, events, alerts, new display of public art, parades, etc.) to increase the sense of community and neighborhood.

My team consisted of six people. We all played a role in developing and presenting the idea. I danced between the business side of developing the idea and the design side of refining the visuals/interface. Arguably my biggest contribution, “let’s pick one idea and do that well.”
